welcome
We warmly welcome you to the official hivida
website! hivida are one of the Orkney
Islands' most exciting and original bands: A trim, well-fit
4-piece playing drums, bass, guitars, and trumpet; with soaring
harmony vocals and infectious melodies.
hivida are:
- Charles Dearness (trumpet/guitars)
- James Henry (guitars/vocals/harmonica)
- Chas Milne (bass guitar)
- Robbie Thomson (drums/vocals)
hivida were formed in 2003 following a number
of informal sessions between James, Chas and Robbie produced
a clutch of original songs. The search for a brass player
led to Charles being recruited to blow his trumpet and woo
the young female audience! A sell-out debut gig in the loft
of the Quoyburray Inn, Tankerness, signalled not only the
emergence of a new band on the local music scene but original
material with a distinctive sound.
hivida have been selective about the live
gigs they have performed. This has been done to try and ensure
that the audiences have some interest in listening to the
music and not just the drink! Fusion
has provided a welcome platform for hivida
gigs.
hivida's influences are many and wide-ranging.
There's a country/blues vibe, but a strong indie-pop sensibility
prevails. The band likes Tom Waits, White Stripes, Violent
Femmes, Cake, and Dan Hicks and the Hotlicks.
